In recent years the Dutch Embassies in the Nordics, FME, InnovationQuarter, the Regional Business Development Team for the Baltics and Nordics and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) have been encouraging increased interaction between the Dutch and Nordic ecosystems for Sustainable Building and Energy Systems.

In 2020 a number of events took place where Dutch and Nordic stakeholders were able to meet. These included the Nordic Business Days in Rotterdam, various webinars on market opportunities, and a Dutch-Danish and Dutch-Swedish digital trade mission on Sustainable Building and Energy Systems. At the same time, a market study of Denmark and Sweden was commissioned to map areas for collaboration. You can find the report for Sweden and Denmark here and for Norway here.

In 2021 the partners organised a series of digital roundtables with important topic such as Digitalization and AI and how important they are for decarbonizing the Built environment in Sweden and Denmark. Considerable time was also devoted to developing a roadmap for the Nordics. A long-term plan on helping Dutch SMEs on with their market expansion to the Nordics. In 2022 FME, InnovationQuarter, RVO and the Dutch embassy network formally signed the roadmap (click here to read more about it). 

The main aims of the roadmap are to:

• Create joint value chains
• Expand innovation collaboration
• Improve commercial access to each other’s markets

In 2022 a delegation of innovative companies interested in expanding to the Nordics travelled with roadmap founders to meet and learn from local partners in Denmark and Sweden
