Celebrate International Women's Day with a dive into maritime history – and future!
March 8 is more than a date on the calendar – Maritime Delta and WISTA the Netherlands make International Women's Day a true celebration for women and men. After the overwhelming success of our event at Huisman in 2023, the two parties are joining forces with the Maritime Museum Rotterdam, which will unveil the exhibition “Maritime Women” in 2025.
Why this day is important
At a time of labor shortages, it is crucial to attract and retain talent in the maritime sector, regardless of gender. This event provides an excellent opportunity to network, learn and be inspired by the stories of women who shape both our history and our future. What do pioneering women from the past say about the role of women today?
Maritime Museum Rotterdam
Through the “Maritime Women” exhibition, which will open in 2025, the museum is highlighting the stories of trailblazing women from the past. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet inspiring figures such as Kenau Simonsdochter Hasselaer, a 16th-century shipyard owner from Haarlem, and Gerritje Willems, who sailed on Dutch war and merchant ships disguised as a man in the 17th century. These and many other women are put in the spotlight, giving visitors a deeper appreciation for the long-standing and sometimes hidden contribution of women to the maritime world.
Men, we challenge you!
We encourage men from the industry to also participate in this celebration. It is the opportunity to put experiences about role views on the table, to learn from each other and to place the women of the past in the perspective of today.
